Brad Learmonth
Board of Advisors
Brad Lermonth served as the Director of Programming at Harlem Stage from 1988 to 2015, where he dedicated 28 years to developing transformative platforms for visionary BIPOC artists across all disciplines. His work provided space for artists to create meaningful, culturally responsive work addressing issues shaping our lives. Alongside Pat Cruz, Brad received the prestigious 2014 William Dawson Award for Programmatic Excellence and Sustained Achievement in Programming from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.
Service and activism are central to Brad’s personal vision and professional work. He currently serves as Board President of One Spirit Learning Alliance, where he was trained and ordained in interspiritual ministry, counseling, and emergent leadership. Brad is also on the Advisory Committee of Project EATS and has been a member of the internationally based Science and Spirituality Forum since 2020. His past service includes roles on the BESSIE Committee and the Task Force for Inclusion and Equity of the New York City Arts Education Roundtable.
With a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and early training as an actor, Brad’s diverse background reflects his passion for community, creativity, and healing. He lives in New York City and Sag Harbor with his husband, Jon Gilman, their three rescue dogs, and a garden embodying beauty, art, and sacred healing.
Brad’s connection to Haiti began in 2007 when Harlem Stage commissioned the opera MAKANDAL, inspired by the legendary pre-revolutionary insurrectionist. A subsequent research trip to Haiti deepened his love and respect for the country, which has grown ever since. Brad has supported Grown in Haiti since its inception and is honored to now serve on its Board of Advisors, bringing his commitment to service and community to the organization’s work.
